A company just offered to hire me to install a 10/100 ethernet card in one of their PCs… The PC has a (working) integrated 3COM 10/100… 
Would somebody like to explain this to me?

I’m not sure what the deal is…sometimes it’s better to accept things the way they are. No need to try to understand what cannot be understood.
It may be a trap though. They might be using Compaqs so watch out, those things are dangerous.

You’re hilarious harrack52! It’s not a Compaq though; it’s a business-class HP Vectra.
Well, I guess that could work if they wanted to use the box as a router…I know that the stuff from the likes of Realtek aren’t as good as those from 3COM and Intel, but still…if it’s just a workstation for reports and spreadsheets, etc…

have you asked them why they want to do this? are the aware that they have integrated 3COM 10/100 in the PC? if they are and still want you to insatll one, then I dont see why not!
Turns out, that’s what happens when a secretary is asked to relay technical information. It’s a literal game of ‘telephone’. She was supposed to ask me to install a switch, not a network card. But, in this case, I’ll also have to install 2 network drops in addition to a simple switch setup. Ahh well, at least I’ll be earning my pay… :rolleyes:
