i need to improve my internet connection

i have bt broadband and its supposed to be high speed. but when i do a ping check its at 47-49ms! im runnint off an extention, could that be a cause of its slowness?

is there anyway i can improve its speed?

Firewall performance can also slow down browsing and network speed.
If you have one, try disabling it and see what you get.
