So I'm dealing with a old camera for a microscope that has PCI card interface. The original PC died a while ago and I'm trying to resurrect this equipment.
When the camera's PCI card is placed into the new Optiplex PC I get an error "I/O parity error at (some address)". I contacted the manufacturer and they told me the problem was that the PCI card uses 5v, and newer 3.3v slots won't be able to handle it.
So we bought a PCI to PCI external adapter from Magma, external chassis supplies the 5v to the old PCI card, which plugs into a new PCI card in the machine.
Try starting it up with everything on and I get... an I/O parity error at X. The manufacturer has nothing more to say about how to fix this.
If I turn the PCI to PCI adapter on after startup, which the instruction manual says not to, the device is detected, but it gets a resource conflict... not sure if this is indicative of anything besides me having not followed instructions.
Also on my home PC which Dimension E510 also running windows XP the PCI-PCI card does not cause the I/O error, and appears to detect the old camera’s PCI card just fine… so something is working.
Not sure what to do next to fix this, will provide any technical specs anyone wants, but not sure whats relevant. Even a point in the right direction would be appreciated.
