lol, I remember trying to get the internet working on my 486. I ended up killing the pc beyond repair! I broke the cmos battery mount. Looking back, I think the modem I bought second hand was dead! I would have diagnosed that in a couple of minutes at the most now!
I think about daft assumptions I made in the past quite often.
I think my most recent blunder was breaking the cmos battery mount on my laptop by accident. I had to use another mount and follow the print on the motherboard and run a wire from the battery to the next solder point along on the motherboard. Odd how it was the same problem I started out with on the 486 but didnt worry for a minute this time round!
