Installing additional drives / cdroms

Hi

I have four hard drives, and three CDROM/DVD combinations that I want to connect to my MB and use as independent drives in their own right.

I have purchased a RAID card which I was told would achieve this, but after reading about RAID, I’m not sure it’s what I need.

I want to be able to access all the drives within XP separately, and use them as separate drives.

Can someone give me some advice about this?

Thanks in advance,
Ratzz

Some cards with RAID can be set into a non-RAID mode, but that depends on the card. If that’s not an option and you’re using all hard drives on this card, you might be able to set each drive as it’s own array.

Hi Big B,

Thanks for the reply.
I have installed the raid card I have and have four options:

Press F1 to delete RAID set
Press F2 to create RAID set
Press F3 to create spare drive
Press F4 to resolve conflicts

I have set-up the drives on the card, and can see them, but when I go into Windows, I can’t see the drives at all.

Can you give me any more advice?

Thanks again,
Ratzz

can you provide a link to the RAID card you bought or provide a make & model of the card

Where are you looking? Under ‘My Computer’?

Can you see them in the Disk Management area? (Start/Settings/Control PanelAdministrative Tools/Computer Management)

If these are all hard drives, and new, you’ll need to format them and assign a drive letter before they will show up under My Computer. You can do that in the Disk Management section.
