intel new Core i5's and i7's - x86 or x64

I know that they’re supposedly x64, but I read somewhere that, for example, the i5 has “4 x86 cores”. What does that mean? would it utilize less of the CPU when running under a x64 OS? Got a bit confused.

I believe the Core i5 is x64, from what I understand, they are i7’s with hyperthreading disabled and lower clock frequencies.

Correct me if I’m wrong.

Also, I believe all of the Core series are/will be 64-bit capable.

All Intel CPUs since the Intel Core 2 Duo are 64-bit. So also the Core i5 and i7. Most computers these days have at least 4 GB of RAM, so 32-bit-only CPUs are useless.

Thanks for the assurance. Just yesterday installed Win7x64 on my i5. Detects all the frequencies and everything correctly as well as the 4GB.

A side note: I wasn’t even aware that x86 is so much on the brink of disappearing…

I7 cpu’s are sick if your in the market for high end.
