Now then, after coming back from a trip to London I discover that my PC doesn’t work.
I try a different plug in the back suspecting it might be a fuse and then as you can imagine to my joy the fireworks start. A beautifull white flash follows coming from the PSU.
Just for a laugh I try changing the fuse and test it. No suprises, it doesn’t work.
Next I open the PSU and see a popped fuse solderd to the PSU board. The shop I take it to switches the fuse making sure they’ve put the correct size in and I take it home carefully installing it. I come to switching it on and then… Nothing.
So, my PSU is probably goosed. But what other things do you think are going to be goosed? Is it time to take it to a repair shop and get the old volt/amp/resistance meter out?

not suprising, fuses usually blow for a reason, if you can, try to find what that reason is, or try replacing the PSU
you may be lucky, try replacing the PSU and see if your system lives

Should I try just powering a different PSU up on it’s own to see if the juice is going through ok? Then add bits on like m-board?

yeah
it’ s just trial and error, everything else could be fine, or the PSU could have fried everything (CPU, mobo, RAM grafx card) just try them to see if they work[ot]you may be v lucky, and only the PSU could be dead[/ot]
As you know that your PC’s PSU is already dead n u r left with no other choice so instead of trying any generic PSU from any other machine you should jst go and buy a new one. To get more information on which PSU to buy or wat to look when buy a new PSU then go [link=http://www.hardwareforums.com/power-supply-sticky-5218/]here[/link].
First thing you will notice on your Mobo is a light on it. Then you need 3 things to start your PC. CPU, RAM and HDD… Jst add these things and see the reactions of your computer. If it boots up then start adding things, Good luck
I’d replace the PSU for starters. Smoke coming from a power supply is a wonderful indicator that the unit is shot. If you don’t happen to have a surge protector in use, it’d be a good time to purchase one. APC or Belkin make some good units.
