Is my northbridge getting too hot?

I have a Gigabyte 965P-DS3P with the stock northbridge heatsink. FSB is running at 378Mhz if that makes any difference. The northbridge idles at 40-43C, and after prolonged load it gets up to 55C. Is this too hot?

I’ve been getting mixed responese on several different forums. Some say it’s fine, and others claim their NB idles at 25C. Don’t really know what to think!

I might reseat the heatsink and apply some AS5 compound when I get some spare time, see if that helps.

Also, depening on where you live and the time of year can have a major effect on the system.
Running things overclocked, especially when additional voltage is applied, quickly ramps up the heat output of a chip.
Lastly, airflow through the case will make a major difference.

well I just replaced my old motherboard with a gigabyte one, and it has a big northbridge heatsink which got reallllly hot. After I put a 60mm fan on it, when I feel it now its not even warm. Hope this helps :smiley:
