i was trying to install wine, typedapt-get updatethen typedapt-get install winegot this replyPackage wine is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source E: Package wine has no installation candidatewine is also not in adept (after updating)

any ideas ?

I’ve only ever got WINE to work using this guide.

It’s important that you do not download the latest version of WINE. Download the version mentioned in that guide

Doesn’t sound like you have any repositories setup which contain WINE. I don’t run Kubuntu (Debian Etch for me), but isn’t WINE in the Universal repository?

they look identical (exept for a few additions at the end, look)

Edit: just started adept updater (125 updates) will retry after update, as wine is one of the packages to be updated

If Wine want’s to be updated, that would imply that you already have it installed on you computer. :slight_smile: Type:

BTW, I see that you have added the extra Kubuntu KDE sources to your repositories list. Just though I should let you know that most of those 125 updates will be from those extra repositories. Now while there’s nothing wrong with that, it does mean that your installation will become out of sync with the main Dapper release. This is because you will have KDE 3.5.4 instead of the default 3.5.2 when you update.

I like to live life on the edge which is why I have added those cutting edge repositories. But you must take into account that there is a small chance of system breakage. That being said, I have upgraded to 3.5.4 and it works fine :slight_smile:

me too, do you think i’d be best updating to KDE 3.5.2 then, or will it be alright to just leave it

here it comes, do i just update it at K Desktop Environment - Conquer your Desktop!, or do you have more pearls of wisdom (commands for konsole) for me

Because you have the extra Kubuntu repositories, all you have to do is type:

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

However, if system stability is more important to you, I suggest you remove the ‘deb Index of /packages/kde-latest dapper main’ repository :slight_smile:
