Hello, i have a toshiba a120 laptop. What happens is when i plug it in i get a green light (seems normal enough) and then i press the power button another green light comes up (again seems normal enough) and the hard drive starts to spin but i get no display on the screen and i checked to see if the CPU fan spins, it doesnt spin at all.
All i can hear is the hard drive start up nothing else seems to happen.
I have tested the following items in another laptop and they all appear to work:
CPU Fan
CPU
Memory
Have i missed something because atm im stomped as to whats wrong
You can try pulling out the battery and unplugging the power cord. Then hold down the power button for about 30 seconds so the laptop has a chance to discharge any remaing electricity. After a minute or so, try plugging it in without the battery and see if it comes up. If not, take out the power cord and try booting up using just the battery. Also, try using the AC adapter and battery from the other laptop you used to test the parts in just to rule them out as causes.
ok i just tried everything you suggested, used a different power supply but still the same problem. I just dont understand why it starts up the hard drive but not the cpu fan, also the heat sink for the cpu appears to be getting warm.

Couple of things to add now.
Appears theres no voltage going to the 4pin cpu fan or 4pin lcd screen connecters when i press the power button.
The cpu fan heatsink starts to get warm after a minute of the power being on.
And as previously mentioned the hard drive is starting up also.
Well, you have ruled out the cpu, the fan, ram, battery, and AC cord. To me it sounds like you might have a problem with the system board itself. You can try reseating any cables or ribbon connectors that go into the system board to see if that helps.
