Hi guys and girls,
i’m looking over the next month to buy a graphics card. i need it for gameplay and for some very light and infrequent video editing. i’ve currently got a nvidia fx5200, pretty standard right?
I’ve got an asus k8v deluxe mboard running amd-64bit 3000+ with 512 ram.
I don’t really want to spend more than £150 but could push a bit more to not have to upgrade so soon, plus windows coming with 64 bit os soon i hope so, wanna get the most outta my set-up.
ok thanks for the advice guys. i can see how the geforce 6600gt is a better card than the one i mentioned, but to be honest i’m not an expert but when i read the specs of the other cards compared tp the 5700 ultra. i don’t see where they are better.
for example harrack52, whats so good about the ATI 9800 Pro and the same for the other card you both mentioned fx 5900.
Not trying to be rude but just wanna learn the reasons, you know educating one self.
Basically better quality graphics and better performance. the 5700 wouldn’t compare to the 9800pro because it will give you lower frame rates in games. This is because its got higher clock speeds and faster RAM and a more advanced GPU.
hmm ok i see where you’re coming from, but i think i’d have to go for the geforce 6600gt. Seems like a much better card and for not a lot more money compared to the 9800 pro.
I got an MSI FX5900 with VIVO for only $135 through newegg.com, since it was an open item. The pins weren’t even scratched, so I’m pretty sure it was just purchased and immediately returned. It’s pretty fantastic for OpenGL games, if that’s your thing.
Yea generally nVidia cards perform better or just as well as ATi ones in OpenGL games like Jedi Knight. The Radeons > 9200 perform bettern with DirectX games ie. Unreal Tournament.
