I have noticed that my new Mandriva installaion (2006) is starting really slow.
Pressing Esc while loading I noticed it gets stuck when it comes to the following line:
bringing up interface eth0
.
Then it hold for a while and then goes on to say
determine IP information for eth0 failed
And I get a nasty looking, red [failed] at the end of the line.
The same scenario repeats it self for eth1.
When all this is done the reat laods no problems and of I go. But those two things really slow the laoding process up. When I was running 2005 it never happenned and laoding was really fast. I was just wondering if these two interfaces are really important as I do not use my ethernet capabilities. Not for connection with other computers and not for connecting to my ADSL modem. Can I stop them from being “Brought up” during start-up?
Seems DHCP is failing to assign an IP address to your computer as theres no connection. I’m busy right now but you should be able to disable the device somewhere.
Yeah, that’s it. If you are set to use DHCP on that interface and there is no DHCP server, it will hang for 2 minutes until that interface times out. The solution is to either disable that adapter, set it as a static IP, or add a DHCP server to the mix.
