Memory problem after adding extra DIMM

I’m trying to upgrade the memory in my HP Compaq dx2200 from 1Gb to 2 Gb. I bought what I thought was the correct memory and it fits the slot but although 2Gb appeared in the BIOS setup, it wasn’t recognised in Windows. So I looked around and upgraded my BIOS and now it reports:

CMOS Checksum error - Unsupported memory configuration.
Power off and remove one DIMM.

I took both DIMMs out and I’ve found that the original DIMM is 2Rx8 667Mhz, while the new DIMM is 800MHz.

Is that the cause of my problem? Do I need to swap the DIMM, or is there some neat trick I can do with the BIOS (I got the latest from the HP site). I need 2Gb to run ProTools.

You might have guessed that I’m a bit of a n00b. :confused:

remove the 800mhz memory chip and replace with
Maximum memory as specified by Hp Compaq web site
Memory upgrade
Expandable to 2 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM (667 MHz)

they should be running as a pair at the same bus speed
