Ok so I have purchased a new mobo for my p4 2.4ghz cpu. A friend gave me a 350watt psu which is fairly new and worked on my old machine. Every single spec. matches up with everything I have plugged up, even the pwr switch, leds and such but the thing won’t turn on. I notice when I flip the power switch in the back, the cpu fan spins about a centimeter then stops. What could be the problem, psu bad?
I would try another PSU in it to be sure!
Have you got another PSU to try it with?
I have no other power supplys at the moment, do all motherboards have a light that lights up on them when they have power?
Not all do, but most recent ones namely from ABIT

Have you tried it with only the Motherboard, CPU, RAM and Graphics (maybe even without graphics if your motherboard lets you boot without them - if it’s onboard then graphics doesnt really matter)

ok I just tried doing what you said, this time when I hit the switch in the back to give it it power, the cpu fan spins for about 3 seconds then stops. Still wont turn on though.
Do you have the ATX 12V power line lugged into your motherboard?
the one with 4 pins? yes.

Try swithching the Power Switch pins around, although i don’t think it’ll help!
Switching pins won’t help, it’s a straight SPST switch meaning either way it’s going to do the same thing, if it was a more advanced switch then it would make a difference, otherwise, it won’t.
Have you tried with only one stick of RAM if you have 2? then changing sticks to see what happens?

What is the PSU make/model?
well, I got the power supply working and the computer will turn on, the problem now is that I get nothing on my monitor, I tried two different monitors. There is no video card plugged in either, I plug up to the onboard video port, I can’t figure this out.
