I have just switched my computer on, only for it to do nothing at all…
First of it detected IDE drives, and did nothing, so i unpluged all IDE devices, and it did even less.
All it does is get to the first bios screen, with the logo etc, then does jack :\
My PC has been BSOD’ing once or twice a week, anyone have any advice?
What’s the specs of this system?
Are you getting any beep codes (besides the single beep with the system booting up)?
Can you get into BIOS and check your CPU temperature?
It’s AMD Semphrom 3000+
512MB RAM
And no, BIOS will not load.
I did however install some tempreature monitoring software before the system crash, and found that something was at 127 c, But could not figure out what.
Check to make sure the CPU cooler is properly installed and that the fan actually spins.
As far as specs go, more information is needed. The amount of RAM and CPU simply aren’t enough.
What do you have for a motherboard, video card, sound card, hard drive(s), optical drive(s), power supply (make and model, not just how many watts)?
How long have you had this system?
Do you get any beeps?
Does the system shut off by itself or just hang?
I’ve had the system about 10 months now.
My specs are as follows:
Motherboard: Gigabyte (Not sure what model)
GFX: ATI 9200 256mb
HDD: 1 6 gig (Prtobly about 5 years old), 1 160gig (Only a few months)
Sony DVD-/+RW Drive
PSU: Magna, ATX 300W
The computer now boots up, however it is still BSOD’ing me :S
Get a hold of Memtest86 (floppy or burnable CD .iso file) and boot off of that. This will test your memory, but it takes a few passes to really heat things up enough, which is about an hour, so let it run for at least 3 hours, if not overnight/8 hours.
See what that gets you.
Also, what error is the BSOD giving you?
The memory came back with only two errors after going for about 8 hours, and next time I get BSOD I’ll note down the error.
This might be heat related, but still keep an eye on those BSOD’s.
What kind of temperatures are you getting for the motherboard? You can use a program like [google]Everest Home Edition[/google] or [google]PC Wizard[/google] to check that info out.
If you have two sticks of RAM, pull one out, and run memtest for 8 hours like you did before and see if you get errors. Then try the other stick the same fashion.
I think the problem may have been a dodgy molex cable in one of my hard drives messing me around, I have replaced it and the problem seems to have gone.
And I’m running around 30c usually.
Yup, a sort of shorting out would cause all sorts of hell. Glad you figured it out!
