Motherboard Component Burnout - Replace Component or Replace MB?

Hey Guys,

Recently my computer has been randomly shutting itself off, and then back on again about 3 seconds later. This has happened continuously/randomly for about 2 weeks until finally it wuldn’t boot back up again today.

My first thought was a heating problem so I decided to get involved, take it all apart and see if I could spot a problem.

The problem was quite clear (I think)! A particular power line connecting the PS to the MB had basically fried for some reason, resulting in part of the EATX Power Connection on the MB getting burnt internally.

The board does NOT appear to be burnt on the back and was wondering whether I could simply replace that particular component or whether I would need to replace the whole MB?

If it were me, I would replace both the power supply that caused the problem and also the motherboard itself. If you have a known good powersupply, you could try it with your current board to see if it will still work, but I wouldnt trust the original powersupply with a new board. I would think if a power surge damaged the connector on the board, chances are good that it damaged something else too even if there is no obvious burn marks on the back of the board (such as a capacitor). If you know how to sauder, you might be able to replace the power connector on the board if you can find a replacement but it could be tricky finding a replacement part.
