MSI P6N Diamond MOBO Fan

I’ve got a q6600 running on the msi p6n diamond mobo. Its all in the antec p182 case.

Unfortunately the tiny tiny 40mm fan on the mobo cooling the chipset makes an ungodly amount of noise. Its running at 2k rpm and drowns out the 8800gts and the cpu fan and all 3 case fans.

How can I fix this? Can i safely unplug it if the others fans are running? Can I replace it?

Anyone have experience with it?

By default, the chipset cooling setup doesn’t require an active fan on it. As long as the airflow through the case is decent, you should be perfectly fine without the chipset fan running.

actually i did just that last night. it purrs like a kitten now. Quite pleasent.

Its still somewhat weird. This is my first build and windows isnt having stability issues per say. But its just fucking up on random stuff. The HDD basically seems to experience a lot of CRC errors which cause windows to hang or diaf. Took me 3 tries to boot this morning. >.>

That’s not good. What’s the specs of this system, by the way?

i think its just a case of me messing with windows. i tend to use tweak xp a lot and edit registry settings myself as well as install all kinds of programs. Also during the first few days I put a lot of strain on the HD. Ill see how it goes. It was just fine through.. 4-5 hours of gaming.

the specs of the system are:
Antec P182 Case
Intel q6600 SLACR G0 stepping
Geil Esoteria DDR2-800 2x1gb
Maxtor DiamondMax 21 500gb HDD SATA
MSI P6n Diamond Motherboard
