Hi everyone, yes you heard right theirs a noob in the area. I’m takin things into my own hands and building my own pc. for starters ill just name off all the stuff ive picked out, and u can tell me what i can switch out for something else. I am mostly concerned about getting a PSU and the processors ive seen on the market ive seen like 2 different processors all the same specs but one says (65wat) <<<<<<<whats this mean lol.. without further ado heres what im thinking:
Apevia X-plorer case
OS: Windows XP home edition sp2
HD:Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD4000KD 400GB 7200 RPM Serial ATA150 Hard Drive - OEM
PSU:OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI ATX12V 700W Power Supply 100 - 240 V
7.MOBO: ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce SPP 100 ATX AMD Motherboard
8.CD-DVD-R: PLEXTOR Slot Load 16X DVD±R DVD Burner Black IDE Model PX-716AL/SW
9:MEMORY: Patriot 1GB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200)
and their she is, oh yeah im also not to sure about the memory abit shady on that so any suggestions would be appreciated… thx to anyone who looks at this and extra thanks to those who leave helpful comments.
Yeah, either change your CPU to socket 939 or change your mobo to socket AM2(you’ll also need different memory; DDR2 240-pin), and go with XP Pro. Everything else looks fine, you even got the same case as me!
The 65w version of the CPU is just a power saving version of the original. No performance decrease though so it won’t hurt to get it.
ooopsies guess i wasnt paying attention kk processor changed to socket 939, and my mobo spec sheet says 184 pin, or were u saying id need 240 if i went AM2 socket mobo??, oh and thx karanislove for the list of PSU’s for SLI, i do plan on getting another 7950gx2 and looks like anything under 650 is unaccptle for my GPU. so i changed that out for the 700 ocz PSU i saw in the list :chk: ! thx guys.. any more comments
I went with socket AM2. Yes, you only need the 240-pin memory if you get an AM2 board and processor, otherwise its 184-pin.
Here’s my recommendation:
MOBO:ASUS if you want, but I would go with something that overclocks a little better, like a DFI LanParty, but it is more complicated to set up and a bit more pricey.
Memory:1Gb(2x512Mb) to take advantage of dual channel.
kk so if i go with AM2 will it be more upgrader friendly in the future?? i did a list and its only 100 bucks more if i go the AM2 route. oh yeah I also had a question about the OS say i just bougt the xp pro upgrade if i had a ME disk or will any windows os work to get it up and running, including xp?? i know me noob : P
OCZ Gold 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model
are these changes in favor or do you guys think original set up is better. so basically the question is 939 or AM2?? im ordering this stuff in the next day. so any quick replies would be appreciated… thx much to all
Sounds good to me. Yes the AM2 systems will be more upgrade friendly, since AMD will now base all the new processors on AM2. Also, you get the faster, less expensive, lower power memory(DDR2). Nice pick on the PSU too.
