Need help with computer that wont turn on!!

hey friends,

this computer doesnt switch on..

when i turn the power on the green LED on the motherboard lights up and stays lit.. but when i press the power switch the fans and lights turn on for a second but then go off again and nothing works..

i thought it was a motherboard problem so i tried a new motherboard.. same problem.. so then i thought must be cpu.. tried a new cpu.. same problem .. then i tried a new Power supply.. SAME PROBLEM!!

the case and power supply are brand new, they were being used in a differant pc for about a week .. then everything just switched off while it was on and it hasnt been able to switch on since..

Motherboard - Asus A7n8X-X
CPU - AMD 2000Ghz
300 watt powersupply
geforce 3

Make sure that your HSF for your CPU is mounted correctly.

if that fails test your mobo outside the case. Read this.

i just tried a new heatsink to no avail.

what else could be the problem?

You say that the PSU switched off on the old PC, and hasn’t been back on since?

It sounds like then that the PSU has died.

i tried a differant psu. still nothing :frowning:

check your ram is seated correctly if its not that can cause the problem, how long was it running before this happened?? another thing i would change is the power lead from the wall to your power supply i had the same problem once and that one the solution.Also check the connection of the psu to ure mainboard, and check ur psu is the correct wattage to power everything. hope this helps Dave. :cool:

i tried unpluging the power cable from a pc i just shut down then tried it in the psu and still nothing.. im testing it out the case at this point. just the motherboard, psu, cpu, ram.

something must be wrong with at least 2 different components.

i tried

2 motherboards ← 1 used 1 brand new
2 CPUs ← both used
2 PSUs ← 1 new 1 used
2 power cables ← 1 new 1 used
2 cases ← 1 new 1 used
2 DRR Ram ← both used

Test the motherboard outside of the case to verify that the motherboard
is not shorting to the case and causing the problem.

If its not shorting out on your case you could always try a different socket at the wall to see if this works. hope this helps Dave :cool:

tried it in a different house, nothing :frowning:
