New 256mb Geforce 6600LE slower than Old ATI Radeon 9800Pro 128!!

Hey all,

I bought a new Geforce 6600LE 256mb AGP card and it seems to be slower than my old ATI Radeon 9800PRO 128mb, is there any reason for this??

The amount of memory is basically just a marketing scheme. Pay more attention to clock speeds, pixel pipelines, vertex shaders, etc. Also do some research and try to find benchmarks for any cards you want to compare, It will give you a good idea of its performance.

its all a bit confusing to me lol, do you know if a radeon 9800pro 128mb is better than a geforce 6600le 256?

I have this radeon: Radeon"! 9800 Series

and this geforce: PC World - PNY NVIDIA GEFORCE 6 6600 LE 256MB GRAPHICS CARD - Shop for cheap PC Graphics Cards

please help, as i can just take the geforce back if its not better than my old ati

btw i can get a ati x800pro 256mb, is this better then both of those cards?

yeh the x800pro is better than both of them.
Dont tell me that you actually bought your graphics card from Rip off ahem pc world. ive got a 7300le and i cant play doom 3 on ultra settings. Refund that card anyhow, it shud be crapper than that 9800 but even if it wasnt i wud refund it anyway

the x800 will stomp those two, do get it if you can. out of the other two, I believe the 6600 is better.

yea my mate can get me one, original ati built for £110, is that a good deal? btw i got a refund on the pcworld shite lol

yeh thats a good deal

The 6600LE may have 256MB of Video Memory but that makes no real difference on lower-end cards.

The 9800Pro has a 256-Bit Memory Interface, I believe the 6600LE only has a 128-Bit interface - that will cripple performance.

The LE on the end usually refers to an almost standard 6600 - sometimes the LE cards are actually ‘lower’ then the normal cards.

Extensions can get confusing so don’t always think that becuase something’s got letters after it it’s automatically better than the standard model.

ok thanks for the info, so matt, do you think the x800pro is a good choice for that price?

av already answered this, the cheapest that i can find from an online retailer is
£120

If you can get the X800Pro for cheap it may be a good investment.

The GF6 counterpart of the 9800 Pro was the 6600gt, which is the fastest 6600 I believe, so any other 6600 will be slower than a 9800 Pro.

Connect3D Radeon X850 Pro - graphics adapter - Radeon X850 Pro - 256 MB

These cards (x850 Pro) would be slightly better than an x800 Pro, obviously, and at a comparable price.

ive ordered my x800pro now lol, but ive been told that my version is better than the link youve sent, as it is an original ati build and not a connect 3d, and theres not a noticable difference between the models

If that’s what you’ve been told, then it must be true.
