NEW Hard drive problem

Hi

i have just bought a Western digital caviar 250gb hard drive, its ide, now i have it all connected, i have my 160gb samsung hard drive with windows and other stuff on, on its own ide cable, then i have the new 250gb hard drive on the same ide line as the dvd-rw, but i have put it so the dvd-rw is master and the 250gb hard drive is slave, now on the bios screen, i see the new hard drive, when i got onto windows, i seen a little pop-up in the buttom right corner, saying found new hardware, which was the hard drive, now i go and look into my computer, and the hard drive is not there.

can anyone help me, thanks in advance.

can you se it in device manager?
also:
right click on my computer and click manage, see if you can see it there, under storage go to disk storage, you may be able to format it there, if not then you could try booting from a linux disc and seeing if you can view/partition/format it there

dont have a linux disk, i will have to use windows xp disk

okay, try that, let us know how it goes…

its ok, i got it working, but now everytime i click on files in the music partition, my computer stops responding, not my computer, i mean the my computer area.

strange, i really dont know, erm…what did you format it as?

NTFS, but i am not really botherd now, i have managed to get in it, and that partition is getting deleated soon, as i am running out of program space so thats 1st priority.

this hard drive is faster than my samsung one :s, it was in a tevions pack too, i thought it was quite cheap, a 250gb western digital caviar for £80

ahh cool, well hope it works well, may i ask how much it cost and where you got it from?

i got it from ALDI’S and it cost me £80

blimey, aldi’s is that the random food place where stuff is dirt cheap?!

yes, they were selling this top of the rang computer in there once, which had x700xt graphics card in, and 3.8ghz pentium 4, and 9xx motherboard, and loads of other cool stuff, it was only £710

wow, well hope it lasts long and works well!

dont western digital have a good rep?

yeah they do, them and seagate are probably the best…

whats the deal with maxtor, i thought they were good to?

they use bad bearings which wear out quicker.
