^^Now, to add to that, all power supplies are NOT created equal. If you walk into a shop and buy a 600W power supply for $35, chances are it’s a POS (unless you’ve got coupons or some sale going on with the deal). Easiest thing to check is just judge by the weight. Heavier=better because more components are used in the unit, which in short, results in cleaner, better, steady power. Personally, I swear by Sparkle, but Antec is second. I’ve also been hearing some very, very good things about Thermaltake units.
Now, you shouldn’t need a 500W unit, but I would recommend spending a little extra on a good 400W or better unit to accomodate future expansion.
B. I know i know i should look at stable voltages etc but PC World where i got it from told me that if it did any damage to my PC that was purely the PSUs fault (within the warranty) or it did not work they would give me a refund. You must understand that at this point i would try anything to get it working. It was actually a good PSU, a lot heavier than my cheap crappy 400W which weighed as much as a glass of milk. Now all i have to fix is my graphics card thingy.
Cool beans. I always have to stop and remember that the UK has a store called PC World. There’s a magazine over here in the US called PC World, which has had me thinking “I know that mag doesn’t sell anything…oh, wait, they’re from the UK smack”
I did try to tell the guy at the help center that i really didn’t need a 500W, a 400W would do me, but he insisted that just because i had a GeForce FX card i’d need one.
