Ya know the trouble with the internet is that you have access to all information rather than just what you need to know. :o
Ive got an Adsl internet connection using a usb modem.
Ive got two computers networked via a switching hub at 100mbs
I want to share my adsl connection between the two but have had trouble finding easy to follow instructions on how to do this.
Both computers are running XP sp2
if you can, just run a CAT cable from the pc with internet access into the other two.
Then use the internet sharing wizard in Windows, and it’ll do the rest.
Actually someone else can tell you the cable, I;m not sure if its CAT5, CAT6 or crossover!!!
The type of cable Waffle is referring to is called “CAT5E” & a crossover cable is merely a “CAT5E” cable thats been wired differently (in essence)
so i dont need to install any software on the other computer then?
no you won’t just use the internet sharing wizard! but do consider a router as option as its much easier to manage.
It wll also act as a good firewall.
also if you use your hub make sure you have your windows firewall switched of as this not allow it alot of the time plus the fact i would’t trust windows firewall anyway id dwnload zone alarm from www.zonelabs.com the free edition (not a trial) on both computers then run network setup wizard m8. hope this helps Dave :good:
I ran the wizard on both computers and all went well.
I still cant access the internet through the other computer though.???
did you pick the right congiguration of what you are using and the wizard and have you disabled all firewall??? if so make sure you have the right networking cable for the job if you are using a hub/router you need straight cable and if your linking computer directly to computer you need crossover cable or cat5e. and if you using a switch/ hub you need to have the main computer on as well for the second to get internet acsess whereas if you use a router you only have to have the router and modem on. hope this helps post back Dave :good:
I gave all the correct information in the wizard.
I am using a cat5 crossover cable
(i do have a switching hub but im not using it)
I have now found that since running the wizard on both computers i can no long run LAN games as each computer fails to connect.
This is strange because in the systray the network icon is showing and says the network is connected at 100mbs.
I tried turning all firewalls off but it didnt help.
I still have no idea how the other computer is supposed to connect to the internet. Do i have to install my ISP’s software on that one aswell? 
If there is a manual way to share an internet connection without the use of evil windows wizards, I would like to know. :o
