What is 6 Channel Audio ?
There is a myth about 6 channel audio, what it is and what it does. A lot of people get confused between 6 channel audio and 3D surround codecs. 6 channel audio is not Dolby 5.1, or EAX or A3D. 6 channel audio means that the sound card can produce sound on six different channels - 2 front, 2 rear, one sub and one center. It is up to software applications to utilize all 6 channels. If the application you are using only supports 2 channels and a center - that’s all you’ll get. By default, most speakers with a sub will automatically use the sub when 2 front channels are being used. To be able to use 6 channels correctly you need a set of 5.1 speakers. You cannot use two separate sets of speakers and expect to get 5.1. It doesn’t work like that.
