I’m really struggling to find any 2gb pc2-8500 sticks, im from the UK.
Ive tried dabs.com, ebuyer.com and scan.com - all just come with 2x1gb sticks. I’ve tried searching on google, but nothing.
The reason I am looking for 2gb 8500 sticks is due to the fact that when 4x 1gb 8500 sticks are installed into a supporting motherboard, the memory clock speed goes right down to 800mhz, as opposed to 1066mhz. I dont want this! – I think its due to a large amount of memory being spread out over 4 sticks, which is as efficient.
Find some 2gig sticks really shouldn’t be an issue. if you are searching make sure you are putting DDR3 instead of pc-2. I can find you some US sites if you’d like though, at least then u can search by model numbers.
Are you sure that the evga 680i takes the DDR3 though? And if you’re thinking of using 6400 sticks, that means DDR2. You need to make sure if you want DDR3 or DDR2, as there is a large difference.
The eVGA 680i uses DDR2 last I knew. PC2-8500 is DDR2. Not necessarily official JEDEC standard, but still, it is recognized in some capacity to be of DDR2 flavor.
If you’re not overclocking PC2-6400 will still be fine, and typically leave some headroom. Actually, for 1066MHz FSB, you only need PC2-5300/5400. Explaination here.
