pc building

i have a cd writer, dvd player, graphics card, case and monitor and keyboard and want to build a pc devoted to making music and connecting to net.
I want to run cubase sx3 and reason 2.5 together and any other production programmes quickly and smoothly but also nice and cheap. any suggestions?

How much are you looking to spend?
What connection does your video card have? PCI, AGP, PCI Express (PCIe/PCI-E)?

Video card is a pCI and I am on a very low budget. The parts I have are what I am hoping to salvage from my old PC.

whats your spec of your old pc?
music editing and things like that can require quite abit of processing power.

Going by the flag, you’re from the UK, so I’m using eBuyer as a reference.

A little over 200 Pounds (including VAT) will give you a decent box, that offers some upgradability. You can go cheaper, but you’re not going to save a whole lot.

Motherboard: Asus K8V-X SE £35.00 inc VAT
CPU: Sempron 2800+ Retail £50.95 inc VAT
RAM: Kingston ValueRAM 1GB £56.26 inc VAT
Power Supply: Enermax EG375AX-VE 370W £37.99 inc VAT
Sound Card: Terratec Aureon 5.1 £24.84 inc VAT
Total: £205.04 w VAT

I suggest a new power supply as what you have now probably isn’t up to snuff. That Enermax may only be rated for 370W, but the specs it has are very, very good. It’s a powerhouse in disguise.
Terratec tends to lean toward the professional side a little more, so I suggested their 5.1, although a Creative Audigy is available for under £18 w VAT.

my pc has athalon 1200MHz processor but the cubase reccomended spec is 1.4GHz is my pc up to it

I’ve never used Cubase, so I can’t say. It’s not going to hurt to have a faster CPU, but having a 1.4GHz CPU isn’t so crazy these days. What’s the minimum requirements anyway?
