pc2100, pc2700, pc3200 ?

i just went to circuitcity and bought 2 packs of ram. 1 was labeled on the shelf for pc2100/2700 and the other was for pc3200 (ddr400). when i got home i noticed that they are both the same ddr400.i am a little confused. can you use pc3200 in a 2100 slot? can i use 2700 in both a 3200 and a 2100 slot? can 3200 be used in all of them?

They all Fit in the same slot, but they are diffrent speeds (its best to have all your ram at the same speed… i dont know if it works otherwise!)

Yes, RAM speeds can be mixed - although this is generally not considered to be ‘good practice’. However, as I understand it, the faster RAM will clock down to the speed of the slower RAM - so essentially, there’s no point in mixing + the faster RAM stick/s will probably cost more to buy.

If you can’t avoid mixing RAM speeds for whatever reason - put the slower stick in the first slot (nearest the processor) to try to avoid any potential operational issues. I don’t know if there’s any relevance in doing this , but it’s just what I have heard.
