After a lot of hair pulling some screaming and a defective mother board, my new baby is up and running. I’ve never really had a nice gaming machine. I was hoping for some tips on how to pull the most gaming power out of the hardware i have. Here’s what ive got.
Evga pci-e nforce 680i sli 775 t1 motherboard
intel core 2 extreme 6850 quad core 3.0ghz (scythe ninja heatsink)
2x mushkin extreme performance 2gb (1x2) sdram ddr800 (4 gigs total)
2x evga geforce 8600gts 512mb in SLI
enermax galaxy psu
2x seagate barracuda 500gb hard drives
currently running windows media center
Antec 900 case
I’m downloading 3d mark while I’m at work today and I will post my results later tonight. Any advice would be great.
Thanks
Mike
you’ve done your homework, an extreme quad E6850 +2x 8600GTS will produce a sweet 2600ish 3dmark score. your rig is certinally better than the norm for now, your cpu and ram is certinally futureproof but your gpu(s) will need to be replaced next, i wouldnt worry yet but when your games become slow that will be your problem i cant see anything else wrong
good rid, im proud of you
see below gpu and cpu charts for future reference, i would suggest a 8800GTX for next upgrade with your rig VGA Charts 2007 | Tom’s Hardware
I don’t agree it’s a good rig. Why? It’s waste of money. I wouldn’t buy this setup even if i had much money in my pocket
First of all, CPU is not worth it’s money. VGA and CPU are not well compared. You would need at least 8800 GTX (as Dwarfer said). Anyway, SLI is waste of money too. Take E6750 and o/c it.
HDD: I would get 1x 76GB 10000 RPM WD HDD + 500 GB HD501LJ Samsung 500GB 7200rpm 16MB cache SATA2 NCQ
Evga pci-e nforce 680i sli 775 t1 motherboard… many $ for +5% performance? Huh?
I suggest you waiting 3-4 months and getting new parts from AMD if you have much money here. Phenom is what you will be waiting for. ~ +20% performance you will gain from the first revisions of Phenom more than C2D. And the prices will be likely the same as C2D analogs.
