Hey guys, i am currently putting the final touches to getting all the parts for my new PC that i am going to build myself. I would REALLY appreciate if you could comment and give me feedback on my specs because i have very limited knowledge on some aspects of the system and therefore would hate to be buying something that is not good, heres the stuff:
To get the maximum benefit, go for 2 sticks instead of one. Socket 939 Athlon64’s make use of dual-channel memory functions, which does add a performance jump over a similar Socket 754 A64, which are all single channel.
Each channel needs to have RAM in it for the dual-channel function to work.
I’d also recommend Seagate, Samsung or Western Digital hard drives. Maxtor seems to have drives that die every few years. I’ve had a lot of Maxtors, and most of those have failed on me. I’ve been getting Seagates lately myself, but WD and Samsung are good companies as well.
Im getting the RAM that you suggested 2x 512mb sticks
Then im getting a Seagate hardrive 250GB
lastly ive heard bad things about overclocking and stability so im going to pay that little extra and get a 512mb SE Nvidia Gainward Geforce 7900GTX which i heard is one of the best in the world at the moment please comment!
Gainward has been a pretty good company. They dropped out of sight for awhile, but have recently resurfaced. They’ve been known for some very nice overclocking cards. My GeForce 3 card from them overclocked like mad…I’ve never had something OC as well as that one did.
I would prioritize the RAM and get 2 GB, especiall if you plan to play something like Battlefield 2. I spent around $220 on RAM but it was worth every penny. I lagged like crazy with 1 GB. Now I get 0 lag and maps load in about 1/4 of the time.
if you were to get that the best idea would be to get two sticks and run them in dual channel, thats if you want the extra memory like mentioned above me, otherwise system specs look pretty good
I’ve just been thinking maybe instead of getting a single 250gb hard drive you can do a RAID 0 array with two 120gb SATA drives
So for any upgrade left I’d say hard drives or memory
I’m actually leaning towards hard drives, memory you can add alot easier than hard drives after building a system and 2x512mb dual channel sticks should be fine for a while especially with a 512mb Gpu
cheers
again haha id recommend my memory i think its alot of bang for the buck
