I recently purchased battlefield 2 only to realize my computer can barely handle it. which comes as a surprise because I have a fairly good system, specs are as follows.
MSI K8T800 Neo FSR Mainboard
Athlon xp 64 3200+
1024 Meg. Corsair DDR (2x512)
Geforce 6600GT w/ 128 megs ram
It barely moves at 1024x768@60hz with everything at low or medium.
I cant figure out what is causing the slow down, it doesnt make sense to me, is there a compatibility issue or what? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
No, that system should be able to handle it fine, I only have a 9800pro and i can get perfectly acceptable frames on good graphics.
Try a reinstall of the game, and then clean up your PC - is it full of bugs, spyware, anything that will drain CPU processing power away from the game.
try to download new drivers or search for possibly any patches for the game that allow it to adapt to NV40 cards, like farcry disables NV40 shadowing unless you d-load the patches. if that doesn’t help then tell me, ill look into it
Sorry, I forgot to mention that I’m on a cable connection. I should also mention I just reformated my computer before installing the game and the geforce 6600GT. So it should be free of spyware and viruses as BF2 is about the only thing on here.
I did tests today in singleplayer mode, I first downloaded the latest drivers from nvidia. Its very weird, It’ll run 1280x960@60hz just as well as it does in 1024x768@60 as long as dynamic shadows, dynamic light, anti-aliasing, texture filling are off. It cant run in 800x600@60 with all of those listed options at high or on any level for that matter.
It looks like its something with those last options in the game that my video card or system doesnt agree with, Im not sure what to do, do you have any more suggestions? Im not sure where to find those drivers do you have any sites for me to check out, sorry to seem lazy but im unsure where to begin looking.
