My brother computer has been running slow for a while so he asked me if I could show him how to re-boot it. I followed the instructions on screen and it went through the process up to 97%, after which it reset to the start of the re-booting screen. I Tried to start windows but it kept coming up with this file is currupt or missing.
the file it says is /windows\system32\l_intl.nls
He’s computer is an e machine 5025 and it runs windows xp.
Sounds like a virus. Then again, you may just have the Microsoft worm, which is a number of system crashes built into all their software. Microsoft, the bugs go in before the name goes on!
You can try downloading the file, booting off a XP boot diskette and copying the file into the \system32 directory! (or copying it off the XP CD)
If that don’t work Boot off the XP CD and try doing a repair install.
If repair install is not offered, then Windows is most likely beyond repair.
What i meant by that is windows OS itself can’t be repaired and thus needs re-installing!
Nothing too serious!
i probably should of mentioned in the first place
How can i re-install windows if the re-boot disk is stopping at 97%.
I take it you mean the Install process is freezing at 97% ?
Would I be able to download anything off my computer to help solve the problem.
ummmmm…Not that i know of!
Try scanning the hard drive using chkdsk off the XP or a win 98 boot diskette
Make sure the XP CD is not scratched/damaged and if it still happens try installing from a different cd drive if possible!
Also when you performed the re-install did you partion and format the drive?
if your machine is also windows XP then u should just be able to copy that file across…
go to your \windows\system32\ directory and copy the ‘l_intl.nls’ file to a floppy disk.
then create a bootable floppy using a different disk and boot your brothers machine off that floppy…make sure the boot disk mounts your hard drives else this whole operation is pointless!
once u have booted up, get a command prompt and copy the ‘l_intl.nls’ file to the \windows\system32\ directory on your brothers machine.
When I performed the re-boot I was trying to complelely re-boot the system back to when he first bought it. I think the computer performed the partion and formated the drive first before it tried to re-boot. It’s when it’s copying the files back to stops at 97%. Where I mean it stops it goes back to the start of the re-booting menu. I have tried to start the computer but it tells me Windows cannot start because /windows\system32\l_intl.nls is mssing or currupt. As you can probably tell I’m a bit of a novice so I’m sorry if I keep saying the same thing.
