I have a CDRW/DVD-R burner but for some reason it doesn’t seem to even recognise DVD-R discs. I have burnt CDRs before and that’s no problem. It recognises CDRs just fine but when I try to use DVD-Rs I get an error message to check the drive and to input a disc… Any suggestions what might be wrong? Have I maybe bought the wrong kind of DVD (if there is such a thing)?
No, I haven’t tried that yet. I bought some Panasonic DVD-R Discs, which don’t seem to work, but don’t have any others at home. Will try it, though, thanks for suggesting it.
I don’t seem to have the driver for the burner on a disc, but Ahead Nero came pre-installed so I imagine that’s it. Maybe the driver is not up to date? Is there a way of getting an update on the web?
You know, I think that might be what’s wrong. I’ve checked again and yes, it says it’s DVD+RW… Stupid me, it never occured to me that DVD-R and DVD+R might not be the same. How embarrassing! :o
Of course I don’t have the discs at home to try this at the moment but I will get some on Monday to see if it works. I imagine, though, that this will fix the problem.
I’m trying to see what I can dig up, but NEC’s website isn’t proving to be all that helpful (I think they just out-did Asus for crappiest website support----so it’s really bad).
I don’t even know if there’s a firmware update for it yet, but then again, I’m not sure that’d fix the problem.
i really do not have a great opinion of NEC DVD drives (not the earlier ranges anyway) i have used the 1100 - 5800A range and all of them i have had trouble with at some point
