ok i was recently playing left 4 dead on my PC and out of nowhere my computer shut off i wasn’t so worried because this used to happen to me allot when i used to have a 300 watt PSU so i just thought it was too much energy my PSU couldn’t handle but it was a 575 watt this time

well usualy in this kind of situation i turn my PC back on and under clock my cpu so my psu can handle the energy but it just wouldn’t turn on anymore so i had to go back to my 300 watt PSU:(

I just want to know what could be the problem and how can i fix it?

note: when my computer shut off the light of the Ethernet port was still on until shut off the I PSU and i also checked for voltages and it shows theres still power running but my comp wont turn on i just want to know what could be done to fix it?

I have only had this PSU for a week and its already broken

The power supply unit in today’s modern computer assumes a role probably more critical than any other single component in your system.

What are the specs on it… including the brand name?

the psu’s brand is logisys

my specs are
windows vista-home premium
amd antholon 64x2 dual core processor 5200+
at the time i had 4gb of ram now im down to 2 gb
nvidia 8800 ultra

I don’t have any experience with that power supply…Before I purchased my components…I asked the Knowledgeable people…what they thought were the better brands…and this was their response.

PSU Seasonic - any model
Corsair - any model
Thermaltake - “Toughpower” series only
Coolermaster - “Real Power Pro” series only
PC Power & Cooling - any model
Silverstone - any model

The right Brand names are important = Quality

Edit: What is the wattage of your power supply?

the wattage is 575

Well your wattage sounds pretty good…But with a poor brand it does not mean a lot.

I suspect the problem is that the quality of your PSU was/is sub standard, and that a better quality unit will take care of it.

Also note: A poor PSU can cause other things to fail in your computer.

so do you think the brand mad dogg is good?

if not what about Antec Basiq?

Antec used to be good…But I have read some disturbing things about it recently. I have no experience with mad dogg.

Personally I went with Corsair…Other than that I suggest one of the following…

Seasonic - any model
Corsair - any model
Thermaltake - “Toughpower” series only
Coolermaster - “Real Power Pro” series only
PC Power & Cooling - any model
Silverstone - any model

I recommend a 600 watt or higher…A little to much won’t hurt…and will still perform better when the weather is hot.
