Question about removing/installing memory RAM

I dont know too much about messing with hardware things, I have some questions so… here they go :slight_smile:

I have 2 computers, 1 has 256 MB RAM and the second one has 1 GB RAM (2 512 MB RAM memories) Im wondering this:

Can I get 2 GB RAM for the second computer just by buying another 1 GB RAM memory? or Do I have to buy two new 1 GB memories and remove the 512s?

Can I put the those two 512 memories I removed from my second computer to my first computer so it gets 1 GB? :slight_smile:

My second PC motherboard is this “nvidia nforce 4 chipset based K8N Neo4”

I dunno too much about my first’s but I think it can handle 1 gb RAM :slight_smile:

Well, the MSI board uses DDR. Wether your first system can accept it depends on what type of RAM it accepts. If it doesn’t accept DDR, then no. If it does, it should work.

The MSI board can accept up to 4GB with 4x 1GB DDR sticks.

Yes. However, like most motherboards these days, it’s equipped to handle 2 memory controllers, commonly referred to as dual-channel. This requires the same amount of RAM in each channel. It tends to get a little tricky when you use an odd number of sticks. It won’t damage anything, but you might hit a few minor bumps.
