my question is do you know any quiet hdds, ranging from 250 - 500GB the one i have now is rather noisy and annoying (oh and faulty but thats another story)
i would prefer ide as i have an ide caddy and speed is not all that important as its use will be for just storing media
Higher RPM’s mean more noise. The Seagate 7200.9 series I’ve picked up over the past few months have been very quiet. I know they come up to 320GB models. The 7200.10 have the perpendicular recording, but I don’t know about the noise level. They’re all 7200RPM drives, which will be a little slower than your Raptors, but depending on what you do, it may not be noticeable.
Hey, at least you don’t have the 15k RPM Seagate Cheetahs (SCSI).
Yeah, those would be another option. While it’s labled as a Hitachi drive, the new drive in my laptop is dead silent, even more so compared with the noisy Toshiba (but it was going out) it replaced. I don’t know how their notebook drives compare with their desktop ones, but they’re competitively priced and Samsung tends to make pretty good products all around anyway.
