RAM for old comp

Hello. My computer is in DESPERATE need of extra ram. The thing is my computer is pretty darn old (circa 2000) and I don’t know if it would be compatible with anything in stores. I’m not hardware savvy, I just want the thing to run smoothly.

Here’s some info:
Windows XP Home SP3
AMD Athlon Processor
800 MHZ
128 MB of SDRAM
100 MHZ Bus Speed

So the lower end RAM I could find was still a pretty significant jump, like 512 MB. Any thoughts please?

Welcome to HWF

I’d suggest getting two Kingston 512 MB valueRAM chips (KVR100X64C2/512). Do mind that the original SDRAMs are quite old, and are therefore expensive. That would cost you about $150. My personal suggestion would be to start saving for a new computer. But as an alternative, you could look on eBay for used ones.

Thank you! I’ll consider both of those.
