Hello, i have a 74 gig raptor that i was using in a raid 0 array. the other drive failed and i have since replaced it. the problem is, the single working drive is now showing up as 138.48 gbs (about the size or the array) and i can’t install windows. i’m assuming its because of this but i have no idea how to make it “revert” back to a normal 74 gigs of storage
yeah! a lot of peeps have trouble installing windows XP with raid0 arrays, this is fixable if you have a floppy disk but if you’re having trouble with POST screen (jeesh) then you’ll need to enter the raid array tool, obviously somethings gone wrong with the cmos of the chips either on the hdd or mb
i hope you have an asus motherboard because im not aware of any other manufactures’ way of doing this, i suggest havin a quicky look of the manual:
usually F10 lets you into the raid tool. you’ll then need to re-create the array if you still want to use RAID0, i suggest a save and reset when you remove the array to make sure it encodes it properly (for troubleshooting reasons)
if you want to cancel the array all together it may be different depending on the motherboard manufacure, usually this will be it for nV mbs:
enter bios setup, goto “onboard device configuration” > NVRaid Config > and disable. this will let you see both drives independantly without raid
i actually took the drive out and reformatted it again. i put it back in the computer i’m building (should have mentioned its an abit ip35 pro) and still have no luck. it boots up the xp pro installer but when it finishes loading everything, just before it would start to install, a blue screen of death comes up and says something about the hard drive(s) and says its possible it has a virus (impossible). i dont have a floppy and i looked on the disc the board came with and it only has vista drivers for the on board intel raid setup. i had no problem using these same drives on me asus a8n-sli delux so i doubt its the drives

haha sorry i had just gotten home from the late shift both times before posting. what was happening was i was getting this BSOD http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d30/driftNWC/BSOD.jpg for whatever reason. i ended up formatting both drives on a different computer. one drive was brand new, the other was in a previous raid that had a failed drive. for whatever reason, after formatting was complete, windows said that my 74 gig drive had like 141gigs of available space. i installed it anyway and am now running xp with a hitch. first post on this forum and i made myself look like a noob 
you saw 141GB on a single drive? are you sure you disabled raid array, it may be because (and its a guess) that the fat system on the drive is stil active from the RAID array.
i think you can do this in xp but if the above statement is true you need to delete the partitions and create them from scratch, THEN do the format.
if you cant do this in XP setup you will have to boot from the XP setup CD-ROM and run “fdisk”

if you cant do what microsoft says or if it doesnt work i would do the above. if it still fails check in bios that you have disabled the chipset for the raid tool, usually nVidia Raid /or “Promise Controller”.
you’ll know if its disabled because it wont show up in post

That’s about what I was going to suggest: kill the current array and build a new one. The data on your other drive is worthless because half of it went with your dead Raptor, so recovering that data is as likely as a snowball’s chance in hell.
You might go a head and take the known good drive to another system and just delete the partition, making it a raw drive, essentially.
