My notebook packed in the other day so I tested the hard drive in my desktop pc to try & recover files.
The problem I know have is that I can’t boot back up on the original desktop hard drive..
The bios doesn’t see it and I cant even use the keyboard to change the bios settings because I get the error message that the keyboard is not found
So I’m completely stuck..
Is it possible that the bios thinks that it’s now has a laptop keyboard & not an external one?
I originally thought that I damaged the Ps/2 keyboard connection on the motherboard so I bought a ps/2 to usb converter, but that does not work either.
I’ve either ruined my motherboard or hopefully It just needs resetting
either way what can you suggest?
Can I simply remove the bios batteries to reset the mobo?
Clearing the CMOS can be done either by pressing a button, shorting jumpers or indeed, removing the battery for a few seconds and re-inserting. Just be very careful not use too much force when removing and re-inserting the battery.
How did you connect the laptop’s drive to your mobo?
Attempt to boot into BIOS. Pay attention to POST beeps if you are getting any.
If step three works, shut down, reconnect the drive back making sure all connections are secure both on the mobo and the drive and boot into BIOS again.

Personaly mt troubleshooting would go as follow.
Disconnect ribbon from the original IDE drive.
reset CMOS.
Attempt to boot into BIOS. Pay attention to POST beeps if you are getting any.
If step three works, shut down, reconnect the drive back making sure all connections are secure both on the mobo and the drive and boot into BIOS again.
