I need a recommendation for a motherboard that will support 3gb of RAM.
System Specs:
Asus A8v (non PCI-e)
x2 4400+
OCZ4002048ELDCPE-K @ 2-3-2-5 200mhz
I am willing to buy a new motherboard, I do have a PCI-E video card if I need to use it.
What I want to do is add a 2x512mb kit to the board in order to get 3gb total RAM. This is for running vmware pc’s. I would like to keep the timings for the memory around what I have now. No overclocking will be done, it will stay at 200mhz bus. I do not want to re-purchase the 2gb kit, so the 2x512mb must be compatible with what I have.
Well, when it comes to running more than 4 banks of RAM, most Socket 939 Athlon 64’s have to drop to 2T to run them all. Unlike traditional motherboard designs, the memory controller is on the CPU die with the A64’s. Things started getting better with the Venice core, but I’m not sure how they fared. Basically, no motherboard is going to do what you want.
