SATA-150 and SATA-300 - compatible?

This is my system…

HP Pavilion Media Center TV M7750n (Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 2.6 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 400 GB HDD) Specs. Desktops Specifications.

I currently have this harddrive…

Hard Drive 1 x400 GB - Standard - Serial ATA-150 - 7200 rpm

I’m looking to purchase a SATA-300 drive. Will it work with my configuration?

yer it should work.

i think if you have a SATA 150 system and you buy a SATA 300 drive, the drive is only going to perform as fast as your motherboard allows- which would be 1.5 GB/s? dont quote me on that though!

I think that’s what happens. SATA is backwards compatible.
