Pretty dumb question, but is all SATA cables SATA1 and SATA2 compatible?
Doing tests on the red SATA cable running a hard drive in SATA2 - mode, transfer rates of about 160MB/s were found. Would the yellow SATA cable make any difference?

SATA cables are the same. Colors have nothing to do with the indicated transfer speed. The 150 and 3.0 transfer speeds are maximum burst speeds, not sustained or guaranteed. My SATA II drives seem to top out in the 50-60MB/s transfer rate, but they usually hit close to 200MB/s burst speeds, according to HD Tach.
