SATA trouble

I have a serious problem with my SATA hard drive. I had a fully assembled, working pc however I had to give someone the motherboard and CPU. So basically this was what was left:

80GB Maxtor SATA hard drive
512 mb DDR ram
CD-writer/dvd drive
600W power supply
XFX Nvidia Geforce 5200, 256MB
ATX case
Wires for pretty much everything

So come Christmas my brother is visiting and he brings his old motherboard/CPU with him for me. So I set it up and everything is plugged in properly. I start it up and I get:

BOOT DISK FAILURE PLEASE INSERT SYSTEM INSTALL DISC

I unplugged it and checked all of the connections. Now there is a different problem. I sorted a friend’s PC out when it had this problem simply by putting the windows XP install disc into the cd drive. This did not work this time. I put it in, then it did that blue-screen scan for devices, etc. By the time it actually got to the main part of the setup it told me that I did not have any hard drives installed. After I turned it off and removed the cd. It now starts up, then there is a black screen with white text that flashes and is visible every 2 seconds. I see:

I have messed around with the Award BUIS Setup Utility (press DEL at start up) with the Plug & Play O/S and tried to set Boot devices. It seems that I have 4 boot slots. I can choose:

  1. a Removable device (Legacy Floppy, LS120, ZIP, ATAPI MO, USB FDD, USB ZIP)

  2. IDE Hard Drive (can only choose none or disabled.)

  3. ATAPI CD-ROM (_NEC CD-RW NR-9100A)

  4. Other Boot Device (SCSI/Onboard ATA Boot Device or INT18 Device (network)) I set it to the first option.

I do not know why I cannot get my SATA hard drive recognized but can you guys help me with this?

[COLOR=“Red”]simply go to the website of the manufaturer of your motherboard and dowlonad sata drivers and put them on a floppy.
put in the windows disk and press F6 when the blue screen (loading drivers etc ) comes and says PRESS F6 TO LOAD SATA RAID DRIVERS. it should detect he hard drive.

RESET YOUR BIOS AND IT SHOULD DETECT YOUR HARD DRIVE< I SEE THAT ‘INSERT DISK…’ MEANS THAT THE HD ISNT BEING DETECTED BY YOUR BIOS

how do i reset my bios? just remove the CMOS battery for 15 min?

yeh that way OR the jumper that is nect to the battery. take that off and put it on the other 2 pins (2-3) for 10 secs. then put it back to its original place and reboot

nope didn’t work.

Go into BIOS and look under the Advanced Setup Features menu for a listing of the boot disk priority. Also, read the motherboard manual, as that can help as well.

how is the SATA drive connected to your mobo ?

does your mobo support SATA drives (1, 2 or both)

hmm… I think either Sata power or Sata Cable is not working properly… Try swapping it with another cable or differnt slot…
