So I’ve been planning to build my own computer for gaming, and I’ve been looking through parts all day and this is what I came up with and I was wondering what Power Supply/Sound Card to get as well as some pros at this look and make sure everything looks like it will work lol.
Like I said this computer will be used for gaming, mostly World of Warcraft. I don’t know what power supply to get (if it matters) and sound card. I also want to make sure this will all work because I am new to this.
In my opinion there are better cases available the power supply comes with a whole slew of wires that most will not use…and you will need a case that will accommodate that.
I think its a bit overkill to say a minumum PSU is a 750w. 550w would almost certainly do and even 650 would probably accomodate a few upgardes later on. Many prebuild design your own sites a similar spec to the one sugested which by the way for a lower price rig looks good and have 550w supplies.
You will need 64 bit OS to use all 4gb of your memory.
i too agree with edgar & Pimp, no disrespect Net Jockey, PSUs are very important, but the PSU Net Jockey recommended is a monster, although personally, i’d say that dual, triple or quad rail PSU are preferred to single rail PSUs, a crappy generic 500W PSU has being known to power less stuff than a decent 350W PSU, personally i only buy Antec PSUs, be carful buying a PSU
Edit: also i’d think about considering a modular PSU
Well I have that monster in my new machine (that I just built) And I do not plan on gaming. I Know it is an overkill. But I don’t regret it…I like the quality. And an overkill will not do damage to my rig where as an under kill has been known to do that.
If I am going to err…I prefer to do that on the side of caution.
I also went with a larger processor than I needed…but that will only benefit me should I choose to upgrade or sell my rig at a future point.
Edit: I just realized that as important as power supply is…This forum does not ask you what kind of a PSU you have in “My Computer”
a decent PSU is i would say all important, but i would say a dual, triple or quad rail PSU is better simply because you can then do some load balancing between the different wires / connection (rails) coming from the PSU
your video card choice is the weak point in the system depending on the resolutions u will be using. if u use a 17 or 19" monitor u r fine, but if u use a 24 i would get a better card gtx 260
First off, the card is just fine. It will run WoW (what u said you are building this rigg for) perfectly fine, even at 1650 x 1050 (a common 24’’ resolution.) A 750 Watt PSU is a HUGE overkill, a good 500w would be more than enough.
