Welcome to HWF

For SLI, you’ll need an SLI compatible motherboard and SLI compatible cards (all cards you use in SLI need to be identical)

You can use SLI capable cards in both SLI and single mode (like a regular graphics card).

They just put SLi in the name to notify you that it does SLi lol

BTW ATI cards don’t need a crossfire motherboard, only Nvidia cards in SLi mode need to run on SLi mobos . (only the new ATI card can do that)

  1. Yes you need a SLI board. The cards have to have the same GPU but do not need to be identical. They can be different brands and have different GPU and memory speeds. But its always better if you dont use idenical cards to install the slowest card in the main top slot.
  2. Yes you can use a card as a single.
