I have installed a new 400gb Seagate Barracuda HD and set it as a slave drive on my KT4V motherboard. My OS is XP sp3. and an 80 wire IDE cable is used. Both drives set to cable select.
My problem is that although I can see it registering ( fully - 400gb )in the bios and under disk management, I get a “Windows is unable to complete format” message when NTFS format ( quick/or full ) is attempted.
I did manage to format the drive in SAFE mode but when I restarted windows in normal mode and tried to access the drive I recieved a “disc is corrupted/unreadable” type message!
However, now it has reverted to the “the disk in drive D is not formatted. Would you like to format” message
After attempting “quick format” again it now ends up saying the disc in drive D cannot be formatted.
Many thanks for any help. I’m desperate.![]()
