Upgrading motherboard P5S800-VM ASUS - help please

Hello everyone, I need help in deciding what kind of motherboard will be able to fit in my computer, replacing my old ASUS P5S800-VM. I don’t have the money to buy a new computer right now so decided to just replace the mobo instead. I’m looking for something newer, with the up-to-date hardware like the latest PCI-Express slots (which the ASUS P5S800-VM sadly does not have) and core 2 duo processor.

Here are my current motherboard specs:

CPU: LGA775 socket with P4 Processor 2.79 ghz
Memory: Two 184-pin DIMM sockets support up to 2gb
Storage: Serial ATA with RAID 0 and RAID 1 configuration
Power Requirement: ATX power supply (with 20-pin and 4-pin 12 V plugs)
ATX Form Factor: 9.6 in x 9.6 in (24.4 cm x 24.4 cm)

My computer’s power supply is 400 wats max

I can live with buying a new processor and ram (well, cheap ones)

Do you guys have any good recommendations?

I think you should go for a motherboard Bundle (motherboard, ram, cpu combo)

That’s not a bad setup right there, tripple core phenom with 3gb ddr2 800mhz, worth the money. I don’t know if you have a Maplins in Americam if not you will just have to look around for a motherboard bundle.

BTW: your current psu will power the Phenom setup.

If you don’t mind me asking, whats your budget like? Check these out:

Motherboard. $85.

CPU & RAM Combo. $205 < This is an amazing deal and honestly have never seen such a good price for quality items.

Video Card. $80. $60 after rebate.

So it comes down to $350. You might be able to knock down the prices if you risk buying from cheap companies. I’d say you can get down to almost $250 but i wouldn’t recommend it. You surely have a stable PC with the popular brands such as the ones i chose.
