My computer at work has two usb ports running on Windows XP
I am sure it doesnt work. Bcos when I connect my digital camera to it, it doesnt recognize the camera. Where as If I connect it to the laptop, it recognizes the camera instantly and works.
I checked in the device manager and under the “Universal Serial Bus”, I see the following entries:
Intel(R) 82801EB USB Universal Host Controller - 24D2
Intel(R) 82801EB USB Universal Host Controller - 24D4
Intel(R) 82801EB USB Universal Host Controller - 24D7
Intel(R) 82801EB USB Universal Host Controller - 24DE
Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
How can I make sure if the usb at my work computer is working fine or to troubleshoot it.
I checked it on the CD and the Dell downloads section., I dont find any drivers for USB. Also., its really strange., some time the usb works and some other time it doesnt.
When I plug my digtial camera into the USB., in the “unplug or eject hardware” I see a “!” mark in the usb port. I double click it, try to trouble shoot and install the automatic driver detection. It doesnt help. Then in the “Device manager” i uninstall the whole USB driver, then I restart. During restart it auto-installs the USB. Then I connect my digital camera and suddenly it works. Its just driving me crazy. Any inputs., please help.

Try reinstalling your motherboard USB controller drivers. You should be able to find motherboard drivers from the manufacturers site.
