Just wondering, when I wanna assemble a pc (with no electric current going through it) do I need some sort of static dissipater i.e. a device that pulls away any static electricity?
Tell me if what I’m saying isn’t very clear but please don’t leave this thread unanswered!
the item your refering to is: an anti-static strap, but you don’t NEED one, you can earth yourself by touching an exposed metal part of the chassis (case) every 2 - 3 minuites, while handling components
That’s also the way how I do it. But one more thing, don’t wear any static clothing like wool.

Ok, but is it an item (an object) I can get from the local pc shop? Sorry if the question is a bit stupid…
I always use one when I can. I’ve destroyed someone else’s component by not grounding myself, even when I touched the case. It might contradict what other’s say, but I always like to be safe.
I never use Anti-Static Wrist Bands, I used one when I build my first computer, but since then all i do is when handing a CPU, i just put my Elbow on the case, never damage a CPU doing that yet
