i’ve decided to give MS the boot, but now i think my DVD burner has turned over and died, any other ways to get mandriva (except download while install)
any ideas anyone ?
right i’ve concluded that my DVD burner is not a happy bunny (dead) tried TDK RW media (brand new, more than 5 discs) no matter what i burn (ISO, indevidual files) with a wide variaty of burning software, and i’m always left with a blank disc (no data)
so i think i need a new burner
any suggestions ?
You could try burning a different disk. ie, 5 CDRs of Mandriva or DVDR (not rewriteable)
Both my boxes run Pioneer DVD RW drives. My *nix box uses the Pioneer DVR-111D, which is their newest model. I’ve got a DVR-109A, and that’s been working dandy for almost a year now.
Donkey, I have a 3 CD set of Mandriva 2006 that i’d be willing to post to you. The CDs come in printed Mandriva case sleeves. PM me your address if you want them

I’ve had mine for about a year and a half and it still works, so I presume that a newer Pioneer would just be as good.
I have bought an ASUS DVD R/W recently and it looks fine to me.

guess i’ll have to save for a new RW drive then, :swear:

well, i’ve got to save up first, not easy when your only income is benefits, but there you go, never mind, but when i look for one, i’ll consider Samsung although i was thinking about a Pioneer drive
I never knew that Asus make the DVD writers as well. When I went to the hardware shop, he recommend me the Asus over the Lg or samsung… So I bought it. They are all the cheapo ones and same cost.
Do you have any idea about Asus…?
