I am planning on building my first pc.
Im not sure what motherboard or type of ram i should get.
Currently i am looking to get an AMD 64 4800+ x2 dual core processor and x2 7800gt graphics cards. I am looking to put 2gb ram in there but im not sure which is an appropriate motherboard to get that would contain these.
The Asus A8N-SLI is about the oldest SLI motherboard out there, and if you’re worried about problems with other boards, this is probably your safest bet.
The Abit AN8 SLI is good (the AN8 Ultra has some issues and isn’t an SLI board), and might be something to look at for overclocking.
The DFI nF4 LanParty SLI-DR is a good choice if you want a lot of options to tinker with. Right now, it’s probably the overclocking champ, but if you want a motherboard to drop in and go, this might not be the best choice. They’re stable and DFI really has something good, but if playing around or overclocking the hell out of things isn’t your bag, I’d advise passing on this one.
Just make sure to snag a good power supply back in the UK. You might be able to find some units here that can switch between the 120V/240V difference, but you’re better off to just go ahead and get that part locally. If you want a description of what you’ll likely want to look at, see the link in my sig.
